Serge Gainsbourg's women: the music

French lyricist and singer Serge Gainsbourg wrote songs for some of the most successful and beautiful women in the music industry from Brigitte Bardot to Vanessa Paradis. Here are a few examples:

Jane Birkin: L'aquoiboniste

The English-born actress first met Gainsbourg in the 60s when she acted in the French film Slogan alongside him. The two released the duet 'Je t'aime ... moi non plus' in 1969 which went on to cause a scandal and be banned on radio in several countries. The two married and had a daughter Charlotte Gainsbourg, who is also a singer and actress.

Brigitte Bardot: Harley Davidson

Gainsbourg had a short affair with French actress and singer Brigitte Bardot and dedicated the song 'Initials BB' to her. Originally the song 'Je t'aime ... moi non plus' was written for her, but she asked Gainsbourg not to release it fearing that her husband of the time would be angry with the sexual content of the song.

Anna Karina: Sous le Soleil Exactement

Karina is a French actress, director and screenwriter, who was the muse of French director Jean-Luc Godard. 'Sous le Soleil Exactement' was taken from the TV musical comedy Anna, which was aired in 1967. She sings seven songs alongside Gainsbourg in the show.

Petula Clark: La Gadoue

Born in Epsom in Surrey, Petula Clark sang several of Gainsbourg's songs, including 'La Gadoue', which became best sellers.

Vanessa Paradis: Tandem

Vanessa Paradis became a star at the age of 14 after her single 'Joe Le Taxi' became a worldwide success. She met Gainsbourg in 1990 and he went on to write her album Variations Sur le Meme T'aime.
