Gabrielle Giffords shooting: Jared Loughner arrested, police seek 2nd suspect

Jared Loughner, 22, was arrested Saturday, suspected of shooting Rep. Gabrielle Giffords at point blank range in the head in Tucson, Arizona. Media reports now indicate police are seeking a second suspect in the case.

Giffords was shot while holding a ‘Congress On Your Corner’ meeting outside a local grocery store. Loughner is also suspected of killing U.S. District Court Judge John Roll and five others who were at the event -- including a 9-year-old girl -- during the shooting rampage.

Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupkin told the media authorities have photos of a second suspect described as a white male in his 50s.

Giffords underwent surgery and remains in critical condition, according to the Phoenix New Times. Pete Rhee, the director of the University Medical Center, told the media the bullet went “right through” Giffords brain.
