On this very day in 1910, 82-year-old Leo Tolstoy left home.
The writer left claiming he wanted peace – Tolstoy had been arguing furiously with his wife Sofya Andreevna for years.
However, the great Russian writer did not make it far. He caught pneumonia and died on the 10th day of his journey.
Dostoevsky couple: from working alliance to marriage
On this day in 1866, Fedor Dostoevsky finished dictating his novel “The Gambler” to his stenographer Anna Snitkina.
He had a good reason for resorting to the stenographer’s services. Dostoevsky was an avid gambler and was heavily in debt, so he signed a contract with a publisher, putting himself on a very tight deadline.
His successful working partnership with Snitkina turned into something more, too. Dostoevsky married her in 1867.
