Dispute over child custody leads to shooting, then arrest

Authorities in San Antonio, Texas say that a man had shot his former girlfriend following an argument over the custody of the pair’s daughter.

The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Jerrod Valdez, and his unidentified former girlfriend had reportedly engaged in some sort of altercation regarding the custody of their daughter while they were at an area bar last month, according to an arrest affidavit.

The victim notified authorities that she was leaving the area when she noticed a vehicle pulling up alongside her with Valdez in the passenger seat.

Then, the victim notified authorities that Valdez grabbed a gun, pointed it at her, and shot her nearly four times, destroying her window in the process, thereby getting her face cut by the glass.

Valdez was taken into custody Monday night. He is now facing charges of aggravated assault.

The victim’s name has not been disclosed.
