Eateries roll out red carpet for Cupid

The typical Monday isn't exactly a hit-the-town kind of night. After a weekend of revelry, even restaurants tend to keep their doors closed tightly on the first day of the week.

But this year, Valentine's Day falls on a Monday. So several local restaurants that are typically closed will fling their doors open and greet us with outstretched arms. That's love, baby.

Here are seven spots with specials to get you back in the mood.

Miel

343 53rd Ave. N.

298-3663

www.mielrestaurant.com

A prix fixe, four-course Valentine's Day menu offers poached Maine lobster with lemon and tomato gelйe and filet of beef with foie gras and black truffle demi-glace, among other options. Cost is $55 a person, and meals can be adapted to suit vegetarian and gluten-free diets as well.

If you would prefer to dine Miel-style in your own home, without having to crack open a copy of Mastering the Art of French Cooking, pick up the $99 picnic basket for two. The basket is packed with more than 10 culinary creations — smoked salmon rillettes, marinated olives, wild mushroom tarts, roast chicken, roast beef and profiteroles with berries and chocolate sauce for dessert. Wine shops around town have been provided with the menu in advance if you need help with pairings. Miel even throws in the white linen tablecloth. Just add candles and you're good to go!

tayst

2100 21st Ave. S.

383-1953

Chef Jeremy Barlow will be open for Valentine's Day, but he's keeping his menu as is. It's an opportunity for first-timers to check the place out, he says, so he doesn't want to venture from what they'd typically find.

The winter menu includes bar bites such as pork belly "lollipops" with sorghum and peanuts ($3), as well as first courses that include escargot potpie ($15.75) and an entree of lamb with winter roasted vegetables and feta cream sauce ($13.75).

Flyte World Dining and Wine

718 Division St.

255-6200

www.flytenashville.com

Flyte knows how to fancy it up for Valentine's Day, with a four-course prix fixe dinner at $65 a person ($55 for reservations before 6 p.m.). Choices include foie gras torchon; sous vide New York strip steak with baby root vegetables and porcini puree; and a Baileys Bavarian dessert with coffee dust, candied hazelnut and lace tuile.

Allium Cafe + Bar

501 Main St.

242-3522

www.alliumnashville.com

It's ooh la la any day of the year at this casual, French-inspired bistro, whose menu currently includes escargot wrapped in puff pastry, scallops Parisienne, and a raspberry pork loin over mashed potatoes with spinach. So keeping the regular dinner menu on Valentine's Day (with a special chef's entree as per usual) couldn't be more apropos.

Rumours East

1112 Woodland St.

262-5346

www.rumourseast.com

Select from a four-course prix fixe menu in the dining room all weekend (Friday-Monday) for $55 a person. Or dine on three courses in the bar area for $30. Choices include filet wrapped in bacon; homemade angel hair pasta with mussels and clams; and salmon medallions stuffed with pesto and served with caramelized mashed potatoes and asparagus with hollandaise. Desserts include chocolate mousse with mixed berries and Grand Marnier creme brulee.

Sole Mio

311 Third Ave. S.

256-4013

www.solemionash.com

This downtown Italian restaurant will offer a $95 menu for two over Valentine's Day weekend (Friday-Monday). Choose soup or salad along with entrees that include Chateaubriand to share, along with four baby lobster tails over capellini pasta and a choice of dessert.

Saffire

230 Franklin Pike
(The Factory), Franklin

599-4995

www.saffirerestaurant.com

Though the regular menu will also be available, a special Valentine's Day menu involves plenty of sexy sharing, with cheese fondue to start, a strawberry salad with toasted pecans and goat cheese and filet and shrimp. Cost is $80 a couple, which includes two glasses of sparkling wine and chocolate fondue as the finale.
