For the first “Free Form Day” of the year, I am reflecting on my support network. No – not my bartender, bookie, and loan shark – but those folks who encouraged me to keep writing:
The Colonel who bled over every report I submitted, but kept assigning me more.
The friends and family who responded to my letters from the front and challenged me to assemble a memoir.
The agents and publishing houses that flatly rejected said stink pile.
The mentors I gained from the Writers’ Guild Foundation and the Veterans’ Writing Group – San Diego who tore my pieces asunder and then helped me put them back together again.
The countless authors and comedians who unwittingly influenced my literary style.
My live-in editor and personal chef (aka “The Boss-Lady”) who keeps me fueled and motivated to write.
Take the weekend to reflect on your own support network. Who is your:
Biggest fan?
Toughest critic?
Most constructive editor?
Negative-est Nelly?
How can you leverage these folks’ inputs to complete your literary assignments, hone your art, and...
Write on!!!
