Man fatally shot in Gardena gunfire; many questions unanswered

In Gardena, California, someone fired several shots into a car, striking a young male passenger in the head. Now, that passenger is dead as a result of the gunshot wound.

Los Angeles police say that at approximately 1:20am Sunday, the victim and his companions jumped into a vehicle at 11400 South Vermont Avenue as they were ready to leave. That was when someone opened fire, discharging several rounds, without warning into the car.

At this moment, police are not sure where the shots came from. In other words, it was not clear whether the gunman had fired from another car or was on foot.

Police say that once the passenger was shot in the head, his friends placed him in the backseat of the car and started to drive off to a nearby hospital. However, it appeared as if none of the men knew where the nearest hospital was, so they had to drive around and search for it so they could get the victim treated as soon as they could.

But on the other hand, it was learned that there were numerous hospitals with emergency rooms situated within 3 miles of the crime scene, including Memorial Hospital of Gardena, Community Hospital of Gardena and Centinela Hospital Medical Center. Thus, no one was aware as to why the men did not take the victim to those hospitals or even contact authorities while they were in the vehicle. Also, police say it was unclear whether any of the men had cell phones with them at the time.

Then, after traveling around 4 miles from the scene of the gunfire, the men pulled up at a service station, where they requested assistance.

When EMT personnel arrived at the scene, it was too late. The victim died at the scene.

The identity of the victim, who appeared to be in his 20s, has not yet been disclosed.

Although the motive for the incident remains unknown or undetermined, authorities speculate that it was not gang-affiliated. Also, it is not known whether multiple suspects were involved. Thus, the investigation is underway.

Anyone with any further information about this case is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles Police Department or the Gardena Police Department. It is highly recommended that tipsters should remain anonymous when reporting tips about actual criminal cases.
