Killzone 3 Eats Black Ops For Breakfast

Anticipating the Killzone 3 release I have been jamming out on the open beta. I can't believe how many people on my friends list won't even take the time to download it. I mean, it's free. Oh yeah, and it happens to be awesome but I still see them playing Black Ops! Most of them are on their sixth or seventh prestige, so the question is why?

The graphics of Black Ops, as we all know, are crap. The repetitive game-play on the corner camper's delight maps just makes me want to toss it out the window. The only problem with that is I don't want to pollute the ecosystem with this unholy virus of a game title. What is it that makes people continue to think this is a game worthy of their time? I am still trying to figure that out and maybe your comments could shine some light on the subject.

CLICK HERE to check out some video of the Helghast Ocean in action from Killzone 3.

Even with the relentlessly repetitive zombies mode and the massively over cut-scene'd story-mode, within a day or so you have seen everything that it has to offer. This is what you get every year, what's the deal? Is it the “all my friends are getting it” syndrome? I don't want to be on the outside looking in either. This seems like a legitimate reason when I look at some of the comments of people who buy it every year. Then they complain about it a week or two later. Then I see the the list of friends not even downloading Killzone 3, a fully playable open beta.

People, you are insane if you do not take full advantage of this. With this latest version of Killzone I have to say the clarity of the graphics seems to be of far better quality. Just looking at the raging ocean surf smashing back and forth spraying mist in your face in one of the operations game mode's snow map shows off the quality. The maps are huge as usual but not unplayable, as most people who think having smaller maps makes for better close combat scenarios. That's just not the case here.

Killzone 3 has an unmatched depth of field effect from clear across the map. With this realistic depth perception visuals from a distance accurately displayed and perfectly detailed whether they are approaching or receding. Killzone 2 has darker and seemingly blurry visuals to help create a more realistic view for the players but this version, in my opinion, has nailed that aspect without making it hard to see what's going on giving me an assured feeling that we are in for a treat this time around.

The weapons load-out system and classes of Killzone 3 are far better balanced and a lot more fair in comparison to any of the COD titles. You actually have to earn your weapons, load-out, and perks in Killzone 3. The ranking system makes far better sense. With a long road of work, all of the rewards have to be earned before you are even a blip on the radar in this system. Where as in Black Ops you can literally unlock every weapon in a day or so.

I guess I answered one of my own questions. The purpose of prestige is because you can get to the max level easily unlocking everything in the game. This happens too quickly leaving nothing left to do but start over. What are the rewards for that? A new emblem beside your name, one layer of graphics added to your player card, oh yeah and changing you clan tag color. Wow those are some choice reasons to playing out the same scenarios over and over again on tiny maps with no other incentive.

Black Ops also has kill-streak rewards that literally aggravate every player in the game at one point or another. These are easily obtained by camping for kills, which surprisingly some players defend. Killzone has far better rewards that are earned and balanced creating a level playing field. Making it without question a better choice for replay value. I urge those of you who haven’t downloaded this:

You should play Killzone 3 Open Beta this will surely peak your interest in picking up this title when it launches this month, Tuesday, February 22.
