WASHINGTON - The House is set to vote on another bill that dings New York - this time for $100 million for the NYPD.
The idea was cooked up on the House GOP's YouCut website. In this case, voters identified $189 million the U.S. has overpaid to the United Nations.
But the Obama administration and city officials already had that idea.
They intended to use $100 million of the cash to beef up security related to the UN - money that otherwise would come from the strapped city.
"That money is going to be allocated for security," said Rep. Pete King (R-L.I.), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee. He vowed to vote against the cut.
King said "there shouldn't be" enough votes to pass. But for many lawmakers, it could prove tempting, since the UN and New York lack a constituency outside the metro area.
