The cast and crew of the film, Killing Bono, are planning a tribute to Pete Postlethwaite, who died this week from cancer at the age of 64.
Director Nick Hamm, a friend of the actor, said: "He was going through chemotherapy at the time. It was the last film we did together - he was ill when he started filming."
"He told me before he started that he had cancer," Nick explained. "But he said that he needed to do this."
The movie is based on Telegraph music critic Neil McCormick's memoir Killing Bono: I Was Bono's Doppelganger, which was shot in Dubln. The film is due to be released in April.
Hamm and the Killing Bono crew are now investigating how to pay tribute to him. A public memorial service is also being planned by friends and the BBC will show a tribute programme on 15th January.
Hamm first worked with Postlethwaite in the Royal Shakespeare Company in the 1980s. He added: "I spoke to the family before Christmas and at this stage he had moved out of hospital and home. I miss him hugely."
McCormick said: "We were privileged to have him in Killing Bono when he knew the end was near. Such a sweet, funny performance too."
