Obama discusses Tunisia with Egypt's Mubarak

President Barack Obama has reassured Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak (HAHS'-nee moo-BAH'-rahk) that the U.S. wants calm and an end to the violence in Tunisia and for that country's interim government to uphold human rights and hold free and fair elections.

A populist uprising recently ousted Tunisian President Zine el Abidine Ben Ali after 23 years in power.

But at least four opposition ministers quit the government Tuesday after siding with demonstrators who say democratic change won't come to the North African country as long as many of the ousted president's supporters remain in power.

Ben Ali's toppling is seen by some as a warning for the region's other political strongmen, including Mubarak. The 82-year-old has held power in Egypt since 1981.
