How much is the most expensive Christmas tree in the world? – photo gallery

Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates is home to the world’s most expensive Christmas tree ever.  See the wonderful picture slideshow.

The Emirates Palace hotel has erected an $11 million Christmas tree in their lobby this past Wednesday.  It will remain on display until the end of the year.

The tree itself is an artificial fir Christmas tree that cost $10,000.

What adds to the expense of the tree are the ornaments.  There are 131 of them that have diamonds, sapphires and other gemstones.  Oh, and don’t forget the gold – lots and lots of gold.

Pursuitistreports: Christmas came in extravagant fashion to the Muslim desert emirate of Abu Dhabi as a glitzy hotel unveiled a bejewelled Christmas tree valued at more than 11 million dollars on Wednesday.

Joe Young of Benzinga writes: The host of this extravagant decor is the Emirates Palace a no-nonsense resort sporting its own marina, heli-pad and a vending machine and pops out small gold bars.

Mail Online tells us that the Muslims there do not mind a Christmas tree: Asked if the tree might offend religious sensibilities in the United Arab Emirates, where the vast majority of the population is Muslim, Mr Olbertz said: 'It's a very liberal country.'

Hans Olbertz, the hotel's general manager, collaborated with a jeweler in the hotel to create the tree.

It may seem strange to some people that a primarily Muslim country would even allow a Christmas tree to be displayed.

Abu Dhabi has evidently decided to give a nod to the culturally diverse international visitors it hosts every year.

It has been reported that even the shopping malls have Santas dressed up in their red suits and white beards.  There are even carolers roaming around singing Christmas songs like Whose Child Is This and Joy To The World.
