Another opening date for same Broadway show.
The producer of the long-delayed, much-beleaguered musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" announced on Friday that the show will now open on Feb. 7 at the Foxwoods Theatre instead of Jan. 11, as planned.
The pushed-back premiere is the latest rescheduling for a $65 million rock musical featuring songs by U2's Bono and the Edge and an effects-filled staging by director Julie Taymor ("The Lion King"), who's writing the story with Glen Berger.
The show, originally slated to open nearly a year ago, has been plagued with financial woes, injuries, recasting and delays.
"The creative team is implementing truly exciting changes throughout the preview process," said lead producer Michael Cohl. "Due to some unforeseeable setbacks, most notably the injury of a principal cast member, it has become clear that we need to give the team more time to fully execute their vision."
That injury occurred when Natalie Mendoza, who plays the main villain in the show, was struck in the head by a rope backstage and suffered a concussion. She was sidelined for two weeks.
Spider-Man, the producer continued, "is an extremely ambitious undertaking, as everyone knows and I have no intention of cutting a single corner in getting to the finish line."
