After two seasons, several fights, two arrests and an untold numbers of grenades, the "Jersey Shore" cast made Barbara Walters' "10 Most Fascinating People of 2010" list.
And what better way for the fist-pumping party crew to celebrate their induction than by teaching Walters, 81, some of their lingo?
"I need a lesson, because you have your own language," Walters said to the assembled cast of MTV's boozy hit on the ABC special, which aired Thursday night. She then ran down some of the crew's now-infamous lexicon, which the cast was more than happy to clear up for her.
The Situation on GTL (Gym, Tan, Laundry): "Almost like a schedule of what we would do first thing when we wake up."
Sitch later offered Walters some clarification/defense on "Grenade," the guys' controversial term for an unattractive woman, saying, "It's just humorous guy language that really nobody's really intended to hear."
It took Walters a few minutes to get the lingo down right, but the host wasted no time once she got the hang of it.
"So are you two 'smushing?'" she asked the on-and-off couple Ronnie and Sammi, to laughs from the cast and a wide-eyed look of horror from Sammi.
LeBron James, Mark Zuckerberg, Sarah Palin and Afghanistan military commander Gen. David Petraeus were among those who shared Walters' Top 10 with the "Shore" cast (Petraeus took the top spot).
"I think we're all just one of a kind," said Snooki when Walters asked if the cast found themselves as fascinating as she did. "And that's why the show has become so huge."
The appearance wasn't all fun and games, and Walters did ask a few questions about the show's depiction of Italian-Americans ("I don't represent all Italians," Pauly D responded). But, if nothing else, Walters certainly seemed to have fun with the appearance, admitting to the cast that "this is an interview unlike many I have done."
"When I think about what you're about to see, I'm reminded that I never got that big interview with Jacqueline Onassis or Greta Garbo," the host deadpanned as she introduced the cast. "But now I have some consolation."
She may have even gotten more than she bargained for out of the appearance.
"When Barbara asked if Sammi and I were smushing, I was like, 'uh-oh,' we corrupted you, too," Ronnie told ABC's cameras after the interview.
