Roger Federer beat Andy Roddick 6-2 6-4 to move into the final of the 2010 Basel ATP. This was Federer’s 20th win over the American and in the final he’ll face Novak Djokovic. The match will be a repeat of last year’s title clash which was won by the Serbian.
The Federer v Djokovic final would start tomorrow at 7:30pm IST/2pm GMT. Live streaming of the match could be seen here. Also, highlights of the final could be seen on Star Sports if you’re in Asia.
In today’s semi-final, Federer started off in strong fashion breaking the American’s serve in his very first opening game to quickly go up 2-0. Thereafter Roddick had his chances to get on level terms as he managed to get break points on the Federer serve, the first time any player managed so this week.
However, the world no. 2 was in no mood to let go off the early advantage and in fact, broke Roddick again at 5-2 to win the opening set in 33 minutes.
In the second set, Roddick had his opportunities again as Federer was down 15-40 on his serve. Though the top seed saved both of them, eventually Roddick managed to break the Swiss to go up 1-0.
Unfortunately for him though, Federer broke Roddick back at 2-3 and from thereon, it was only a matter of time before he’d win the tie to set up a date with Djokovic, the second seed.
Federer leads their head-to-head rivalry 11-6 with their most recent meeting coming at the Shanghai Masters last month. Federer prevailed then in straight sets and would be looking to win again at Basel, a place where he’s already won thrice before.
