The Devil's Due - Arliss Adams (Twist of Fate Series)
In this thrilling continuation of Devil's Dance, heroine Jeannette Connor carries on life after losing her beloved husband and temporarily winning the war against a vendictive and nasty mother-in-law who wants to claim Jen's son as her own. She meets, remarries, and thrives in her newfound fame in theater and she's surrounded by people who love her...except for a sister she's not seen in years. Jeanette's a survivor yet still suffers from nightmares from the horrible rape and near-death experience she endured in the first book.
I'm not sure The Devil's Due can stand alone because you really need to experience the brutality that Jen suffered in Devil's Dance to make the fear so real that you quiver. Although the ending in this book is surprisingly as violent, you will understand the need for vengenance and appreciate the need.
Combined, these two stories are dynamite. Although fiction, Arliss Adams has a finger on the pulse of the violent side of our society. Sadly, bad things happen to good people, and Ms. Adams brings you a shocking glimpse of one innocent woman's horrifying experience. I applaud the author and her publisher for broaching a topic most houses won't touch. Be warned, this story, as with the first, is not for the faint of heart.
