American Idol 360 degree stage gives cameras, audience better views

American Idol is in full swing on FOX. Tuesday is the first of three nights of America Idol Top 24 and the competition is fierce. The show started as planned, but there was a new 360 degree experience American idol stage for the new season.

Call it extraordinary. Or perhaps ingenious. This new American Idol stage is going to do wonders for the audience at the studio as well as those fans watching at home. Gone is the squinting of the backdrops of the show and darkness. Replaced is the openness of the theater with a chance to catch the spirit of Idol fever.

Mind you that the audience section of the theater for American Idol isn’t big. In fact, the camera does make it look much larger than life, but with the new spacing we can actually see the family better and the fans response is ever so obvious, even with just a wide shot. The American Idol globes seen on both sides of the stage and highlight the jumbo monitors are always moving (even during breaks) and keep the stage looking fresh.

Now if you are so lucky to get a ticket for season 10, don’t expect to need binoculars. Every one of the seats appears to have a decent view of the stage, with room around the seating so cameras and staff can come and go as needed. There is seating all the way around the theater including behind the stage itself. That along with the upper tier gives the space a more unified sound when people clap. While you might have to duck and bend around a few sings, the only thing else you will be doing at the studio is cheering on the contestants.

The American Idol stage, with the new 360 experience stage, the new judges and the over the top talented contestants undeniably have a good thing going. All those critics who said the show couldn’t be revived after Simon Cowell left must be feeling pretty stupid right now. Bet they can’t even get a seat to check out the new theater arrangement.
