Chelsee Oaks was cut last week on American Idol. Her family watched the dream of being the next American Idol on Season 10 dashed and life as they once knew it returned back to normal. Well sort of. Chelsee Oaks’ family could have been her ‘Dream Team’ as they supported her on American Idol Season 10.
In an exclusive interview Sunday with Tracee Crabtree, Chelsee Oaks mom, we found out the ‘Dream Team’ behind every contestant of the American Idol competition process is the family. In a tough Hollywood world, contestants need support to find their way during the American Idol Auditions. Chelsee Oaks, who was on the path of American Idol season 10, definitely had family who made the process of following her dream possible.
Tracee Crabtree had faith that her daughter would do well on American Idol. From the very first day Chelsee Oaks’ mom heard about her daughter’s audition for American Idol, there was no doubt she knew she was going to be something special. Chelsee has always been about music. From 5th grade until she graduated, the young woman made her mom proud and even opened for country singer Tracy Bird.
The ride on the American Idol audition trail was a bumpy one that everyone experienced. Not just for Chelsee, but also for her family. Not bad, mind you. Just an involvement that brought her family into her dream and everyone left with an incredible experience.
The Auditions
It was the sixth American Idol auditions before the Oaks family actually came down to support Chelsee in person. Prior to this the family was on pins and needles and it was all about the phone calls. During this time Chelsee and the family found themselves with hope hanging on a telephone ring that she would continue in the audition phase.
“We were full of emotions during this time,” says Tracee who about the experience. “Every time the phone would ring after an audition, we found ourselves wondering what the answer was going to be.”
With the support of six of Chelsee’s relatives, the family showed up at the crack of dawn on the day of her final Hollywood decision and singing before the celebrity judges. Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler were listening to Chelsee while the family waited outside the doors with Ryan Seacrest. The famous words of the judges made everyone scream as Chelsee found out she got a golden ticket advancing to the next round.
You’re going to Hollywood Baby
The dream team kept the faith all during the American Idol process. Talking about seeing her daughter on television, Tracee was full of pride as it was her hope that something wonderful would come from the experience.
“To see her on television was surreal. My heart was so full for her,” declared Tracee. “It was so awesome that I can barely explain just how proud I was.”
The roller coaster of emotions definitely continued for the family as they stood beside the American Idol contestant week after week as Chelsee advanced. Bringing America closer to this American Idol contestant who faced continuous challenges on the show, the family was the strength and support. Anytime Chelsee needed anything she knew they were there for her.
Getting Cut on American Idol
As we now know, Chelsee didn’t make it past the cut for the top 45, but there isn’t any regret from Tracee Crabtree or Chelsea Oaks. Knowing weeks prior to the rest of us, the family of Chelsee Oaks had time to process the unfortunate cut and keep the decision private.
So exactly how did the family keep it secret? They signed a $5 million dollar nondisclosure contract with American Idol producers so they couldn’t talk. It was just like all the rest of the American Idol contestants. It was conditional that the family and the contestant would not reveal the outcome or there could be a fine and for sure disqualification from the competition. Fans who followed 'Idol' were pushy (as one would imagine) and did what they could to find out. Tracee explained that all the family came together to have the same answer and with over a 1,000 requests with Facebook, on their jobs and even at the grocers, the family was uniform in standard response.
“Our response was you will have to wait and watch. We signed a $5 million dollar contract so keep an eye on the television because we are not talking,” stated Tracee who was firm about the no information stance.
The Response to a fallen American Idol contestant
After the world saw Chelsee cut on American Idol something remarkable happened. The fan support and responses poured in from all across America. In less than 30 minutes, Tracee Crabtree got 79 messages on her Facebook page about the decision. Chelsee got hundreds of notes from fans who loved her storyline on American Idol. Some fans were quite upset they didn’t get to see her music continue, others empathized with the performer. Even though it was the end of the road temporarily, America loved Chelsee Oaks and her music.
The community got caught up in the fun of Chelsee Oaks on American Idol as well. From the final party where the local news had cameras in the living room to watch the final scenes on Idol, to those wanting to buy Chelsee's new CD, everyone seems to have such a wonderful response to a young woman who took the Idol challenge and embraced it like a superstar.
“You know overall it was an incredible experience for all of us,” says Tracee. “If your family is given the chance to be part of the opportunity, jump on it. Know it is tiring. Know it is exhausting, but also know you will never receive any other chance like this again and it is so worth it.”
Chelsee Oaks Today
Last week we saw Chelsee depart American Idol, but she hasn’t departed from her dream of a singing career. A new single of hers is out and available to everyone who found her voice to be worth a look. From the fans perspective it was so disappointing to see Chelsee dropped from the show, but it was awesome and exciting to see one woman’s mission to do her best on television. She had support of her family or should we say an American Idol Dream Team?
