Bay Area classical music holiday performances

A Chanticleer Christmas (Dec. 10-22) The men's chorus offers its annual seasonal program of vocal music, ranging from Gregorian chant and Renaissance polyphony to carols and gospel numbers. San Francisco Symphony (Dec. 15-19) After dabbling in a little seasonal Bach last year, the Symphony and Chorus director Ragnar Bohlin will return to the tried-and-true with Handel's "Messiah." Bohlin conducts a slate of soloists that includes soprano Kiera Duffy, mezzo-soprano Tove Dahlberg, tenor Benjamin Butterfield and bass Robert Gleadow. American Bach Soloists (Dec. 16-18) Music Director Jeffrey Thomas will lead performances of Handel's "Messiah" featuring vocal soloists Arianna Zukerman, Jennifer Lane, Wesley Rogers and James Maddalena. Magnificat (Dec. 17-19) Warren Stewart's early-music ensemble offers Marc-Antoine Charpentier's "Midnight Mass," a liturgical blend based on popular Christmas carols.
