Russian plane lands safely after crack in cockpit windshield

A Russian An-24 passenger aircraft landed safely on Thursday at an airport in the Trans-Baikal city of Chita after the pilots discovered a crack in the plane's windshield, a local police source said.

The IrAero plane with 33 passengers and five crew members on board was flying from Blagoveshchensk in Russia's Far East to Chita.

"The aircraft was flying at an altitude of about 12,000 feet when the crack formed on the windshield. There was no threat of pressure loss in the cabin, and the pilots did not request an emergency landing," the source said.
