Q: You sound a little tired.
A: Yeah. I'm just a little - I don't know what the word is - I guess I have band fever.
Q: What's your biggest gripe with touring?
A: The United States is gigantic. You have to do crazy drives all the time.
Q: But you can do stuff in the van, right? Like watch movies and make piŃatas and stuff?
A: I watch a lot of DVDs on my laptop. I'm constantly on my cell phone. I have a Nintendo DS. It's a lot of sitting in a van. And it's a lot of sitting backstage before we go on. But it's a lot of fun. We're getting to play a lot of awesome shows and go to places I never thought I would go.
Q: Well, next time you can just make an album nobody likes.
A: Yeah, if I made a s- album I would never have to leave California.
Q: What's your favorite thing to watch?
A: I really like "SpongeBob SquarePants." I watch that a lot. I bought this awesome Denzel Washington movie at a rest stop. It's called "Ricochet." He plays a cop, and he gets framed for a murder he didn't commit. It's super-weird and creepy and awesome. When we stay in hotels, I just watch TV. I'll never get sick of "Seinfeld." There are episodes I've seen a billion times. There isn't an episode I don't like except the backward one where they go to India.
Q: People always say how you sound so old but you're so young. What's your theory?
A: My dad is a musician. I grew up listening to all the music he listened to. That's the way I found out about the Ronettes and Phil Spector and the Beach Boys. The "Home Alone" and "Home Alone 2" soundtrack also had a bunch of girl-group stuff on it. So I was influenced by stuff like that.
Q: What's going on with your cat, Snacks? He's on your album cover and has his own Twitter account and everything.
A: Yeah, Snacks. I miss him. My mom is at my house taking care of him, and she's sending me photos of him daily so I can see what he's doing. He's always there when I get home. He greets me like a dog. He meows for two days straight.
Q: But don't you have two cats?
A: I do have two cats, but my other cat is really old. I've had her as a little kid. She's not as vocal as Snacks. My other cat is Chloe. I guess I should give her a Twitter page, too. {sbox}
